Maternal health care is essential. For all mothers. However, with limited global resources available, and varied government healthcare policies in place, the access to quality maternal care inevitability does not reach all mothers. Many mothers across the world suffer, and far too many die tragically as a result of simply bearing a child. A long-standing maternal health crisis exists globally.
Every Mother Counts has a simple mission of making pregnancy and childbirth safe for everyone, everywhere. The nonprofit organization aims to prevent maternal deaths across the globe, by providing women with access to quality, respectful, and equitable maternity care. Since 2010, Every Mother Counts has been fighting against the global maternal health crisis.
Pandemic or otherwise, the long-term challenge moms are presented with is the fact that options for new motherhood support do exist, but it is still considered a luxury to have access to that support—birth and postpartum doulas, infant care specialists, lactation consultants, mental health providers, childcare providers, parenting coaches, physical therapists, specialty care for medical conditions—and the list goes on, dozens of times over. While these services undoubtedly benefit the health and wAs this year marks Every Mother Counts’ ten year anniversary, the organization has reinforced their commitment to mothers and care providers everywhere, especially those vulnerable to COVID-19. Under a special initiative, donations are allocated specifically towards:
Prenatal home care kits with blood pressure monitor cuff and urine test–enabling women to get prenatal information to providers without risking exposure.
Groceries and diapers for new moms through a community-based doula organization.
Telehealth support for new moms, by equipping midwives and doulas with technology and training to do so.
Virtual support throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.
Maternal health support hotline for women during COVID-19.

Since the spread of COVID-19, all of our lives have been irrevocably changed. Amid this urgent health crisis, we cancelled our plans to celebrate our 10-Year Anniversary and have been focusing on finding new and expanded ways to support mothers during this difficult time.
As countless, heart-wrenching stories from women and healthcare providers around the world continue to pour in, we are doubling down on our commitment to support mothers and the individuals who care for them–no matter where they live.
